Now that I’ve posted the Lividian Publications production update, I thought I’d share the Patreon production update as well since more than a few readers lately have been asking what my Patreon is all about.
First, I’ve hit a huge milestone this week. My Patreon now has 500 active supporters, which completely blows my mind. Many thanks to everyone who has signed up to support what I’m doing!
For those who are curious, there is now a FREE option if you want to receive any “public” posts, no payment required. Just click on the “Join For Free” button on this page and follow the prompts. This won’t qualify you for the Members Only posts and rewards, but I will be sharing some of the previews and early notices with the general public on there in the near future:
For the paying supporters, in addition to the various rewards produced exclusively for Patreon supporters only (see below), I also post previews of new unannounced Lividian projects; early ordering windows for those projects along with Grab Bags and books from other publishers (many of which never get offered to the general public); essays, updates, behind the scenes information; occasional short stories and other previews of work-in-progress; sneak peeks at artwork; and photos from my archives. (You can read more about the different rewards tiers on the Join Page.)
Now, onto the production updates:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Brian James Freeman Chapbooks tier
Twice per year, supporters receive a new Brian James Freeman authored signed Limited Edition chapbook. These chapbooks are “housed” in a custom-printed envelope with line artwork and the Lividian Publications logo printed on it. These are perfect bound, not stapled, and printed entirely in full-color. The inside-cover features full-color artwork, and each chapbook is signed by the author and often the artist. If you’ve missed out on past chapbooks, you can see an overview of them here.
September 2023: “Burying Little Annie” — all shipped!
January or February 2024: a new short story about the end of the world (seemed topical!) — the artist has recently completed the interior illustrations, and the signature sheets will be headed his way next week.
July 2024: a brand new short story.
2. Guest Author Chapbooks tier
In addition to the BJF chapbooks, twice per year supporters on this tier receive a new signed Limited Edition chapbook written by a guest author. Past guests have included Joe Hill (“You Are Released”), Richard Chizmar (“The Sniper”), WH Chizmar (“Mr Purple”), and Bev Vincent (“What’s In A Name?”).
December or January: an often overlooked classic short story by Robert McCammon, signature sheets are currently headed to Canada for François Vaillancourt to sign and here is a sneak peek at the cover artwork:
April or May 2024: a new chapbook about the works of Stephen King (a companion of sorts to Bev Vincent’s hugely popular, “What’s In a Name?” chapbook that we published last year); manuscript has been delivered and artwork has been assigned. I was thinking we might do another set of postcards like we did for Bev’s previous chapbook.
3. Exclusive BJF Limited Edition Hardcovers tier
Every 12 to 18 months, we publish an exclusive signed Limited Edition for supporters on this tier and above. These special editions are not distributed to retailers or sold to the general public. Print runs have been as low as a few dozen copies, and the early ones are extremely difficult to find. If you’ve missed out on past exclusive Limited Editions, you can see an overview here.
September 2023: Patreon Stories Volume 3 — all editions shipped!
Spring 2024: Sad Broken People (mini-collection) — being proofread now, features FIVE short stories with interior illustrations, plus a foreword by Robert McCammon. Headed to the printer soon!
Fall 2024: several possibilities including a new novella, a revised edition of an older book, or another mini-collection
Lividian Publications Limited Editions Tiers
In addition to everything on the lower tiers, supporters on the Lividian Tiers automatically receive each review copy, trade paperback, trade hardcover, and signed Limited Edition published by Lividian Publications. Our goal each year is to publish three Limited Editions in the style of The Chill/The Last House on Needless Street/The Store/Gone South/The Dog Stars and approximately one Limited Edition in the style of the Joe Hill books. So that’s four review copies and four Limited Editions each year if you’re on one of the Lividian tiers. There could be more, of course, if all goes well!
Recently Shipped: The Dog Stars (Limited Edition), Seven Shades of Evil (trade hardcover), and Where They Wait (review copy)
Shipping Soon: Where They Wait (Limited Edition) and an unannounced Limited Edition
That’s it for today. Thank you again to everyone who has ever supported my Patreon. You’re very much appreciated.
Best,
Brian
Hi, Brian, I’ve been following Lividian for a while now. It is truly a class act — I’m very impressed. I wish I had been able to develop my own small press (Hill House, Publishers) along the same lines that you have done. Unfortunately, I was the only person in the company — it looks like you have great employees to rely on. Your books are truly stunning, and you provide more information to your customers than I’ve seen any other small press accomplish.
I wish you the best of luck as you continue with Lividian.
All best, Peter Schneider
